Do I wish the abuse of Olivia Pope could b addressed by Kerry Washington yes. Do I understand why it can’t and won’t be yes. It’s is sad that u work on a show that won’t allow u to openly speak abt what happens to ur character unless it is n support of the show…
It will never be done because SR is suffering from some major self hate. She wishes she were white and she empathises with the white characters because to her Black women or less then and deserve less. Her perspective comes from the white male school of thought and thats sad, given she is neither white or male.SR has some serious issues any first year Psych student can see that. What is fustrating is that she either does not realize the message she is sending or she does not care,Its sad because this woman hates herself so much she cant even see the abuse heaped on Olivia.Who ever it was wether parents or lover who messed Shonda up they need jesus.Because now this woman is taking her issues out on front of the world to watch. That is why kerry is in special and great place to show Rhimes the errors of her ways by speaking out against DV against women of color and specifically Olivia Pope.I understand its just a show and its her paycheck but where is the respect for the craft and yourself as an actress.KW is a far better actress then most and the fact that she refuses to speak up about this as it pertains to Scandal look two faced. When you are now lending your voice and name to such org as the purple purse and stay mum when your character is getting thown around like a rag doll, choked and have a gun pulled on her,How will anyone take what you say seriously. She can speak against the treatment of OP and still keep her job if thats what she is afraid of.Know your power Kerry, you have lots of it.
I think working with the Purple Purse, is Kerry’s subtle way of addressing the domestic violence of Olivia because it quietly forces the spotlight back onto Shonda as it should . She wrote Olivia into those violent situations in the first place so she very well maybe still receiving tweets about it as I type this up. There’s but so much the actors can do without their feelings bruising the showrunner’s ego and marring their professionalism, (remember what happened to Katherine Hiegl for speaking up about abysmal writing of her character on Grey’s ? ) especially with a boss like Shonda.
Luckily everyone in their industry respects Kerry and has known her for years to be involved in causes that uplift women and so she shouldn’t shoulder the blame for Shonda’s self hatred and willful abuse of poc characters Like you, I do think Shonda has internalized issues that are bleeding into her shows. Just look at how’s she’s treated Miranda Bailey, Calli Torres and Stephanie on Grey’s and Naomi on PP before Audra headed back to Broadway, there is a hostility and disconnect when it comes to fully humanizing women of color.
All of the above!
X________X I love you gladi8rs
I know I am harping, love. Certain things simply do not sit well with me. Love you too. Night, night.
No harping at all, the elephant in the room ought to be acknowledged because it’s ruining what could be quality television changing how poc are seen.
Hmmm. I am far more concerned with how WOC view themselves as valuable human beings. Not here for mute, stunted and retrograde characterizations being enabled. As the old adage goes Not making a choice IS a choice.
